Flash Fiction

For this project, I was asked to design a publishing piece for a series of flash fiction stories. I selected nine stories from Lou Beach’s ‘420 Characters’ series, and turned them into tiny matchbooks, a different matchbook per story. Each matchbook’s title, copywriting, color palette, and illustrations refer to specific details in each particular story.

Experimental Photomanipulations
An experinental project by Paul Hollingworth.

“A series of self-initiated images titled ‘Form minus Function’.
It’s fair to say that type and ink only ever meet on a printed page. In this series of images, the two elements are presented to us in a way that is a little more unusual. Images of black and white ink in water are accompanied by small typographical letters to generate strange yet captivating forms that appear to float effortlessly in the air.
A contemporary tribute to traditional methods of print.”

I began this small project recently in March of 2012, after deciding to pursue an internship in IxD, IA, UX, and UI Design for this upcoming summer. I chose to integrate a few geometrical forms and elements to communicate and reinforce both spectrums of my skill set . Colors were done with the same intention: blue = creative, red = analytic.
